Enamel is the marriage of glass and metal. As an art form, it goes back to the ancient Greeks. Finely ground glass is applied in many thin layers to a metal surface. Each piece is then fired numerous times in a kiln at 1500 degrees. I build the design within the layers of glass, which melts and fuses to the metal. It produces a brilliant surface that will retain its clarity for centuries.
My pieces use both sterling silver and 18 karat gold. The techniques employed are cloisonné, champleve, basse taille, and collage with ceramic transfers, bringing my own creative sensibilities to this very elegant material.
